According to article 12 of Law 3549/2007 on the reform of the institutional framework for the structure and function of Higher Education Institutions (Official Gazette A΄ 69) referring to undergraduate studies and more specifically to support services and Students Advisors, it is provided that:

1. The Internal Regulation of each University Department establishes the creation and operation of a students’ support service aiming at providing them with counseling services for their smooth transition from secondary to higher education, as well as supporting students with disabilities or students with difficulties in successfully achieving the completion of their studies.

2. By decision of the General Assembly of each University Department members of the teaching or scientific staff are appointed Students’ Advisors for one academic year by rotation. The task of the Students’ Advisors is to provide guidance and orientation as well counseling to students so that they progress and successfully complete their studies. All members of teaching or scientific staff must assist the Students’ Advisors in their work. During their period of service the Students’ Advisors are facilitated in the exercise of their duties by exemption or reduction of any administrative obligations they may have.
